Regions and Location

Modified on Mon, 1 Apr at 1:39 PM

Regions and Locations is a feature we designed to allow you to enrich your data with truck-level specifics where a truck is located. This allows you to “bucket” your data in ways to match how you divide up your operations. It’s not perfect, but this was requested by a number of customers who wanted the ability to bucket their data according to where a Truck lives within their operation.

We use the terms Regions and Locations because that’s how most contractors use the feature, but you could also think of them as Category and Subcategory, because there’s really no limit on what you can put into the fields (and hence no limit on how you might want to organize your data)

Creating/Editing regions and Locations

You can edit your defined regions/locations by finding the settings menu and the Regions and Locations submenu:

Once there, you begin by defining the higher-level Regions, and below each you define Locations which belong to a Region.

Here’s an example of how we’ve done this with our demo data:

Adding Regions/ Location to a Truck

Once you’ve defined your Regions and Locations then you edit each truck, by going to ‘Trucks’ on the left hand menu, click on the truck you would like to edit, then select the edit button on the toolbar, then the pencil next to your truck number.

Select the Location tab, then select the Add or Delete button to edit the Regions and Locations for the truck.

In this example, you could say that a truck was in Erie on April 1st , then again on July 1st.

Reporting on Regions/Locations

When pulling reports on your miles, revenue, etc, you’ll see that you can drill down those reports by Region and Location. When you do that, you’re able to get a picture of how many miles you drove in each of those regions. If you’ve got a large fleet with multiple managers, this can give you helpful breakdowns of your data that are separated by whatever Regions/Locations you’ve defined.

defined.

Using Regions/Locations in Settlement Data

Additionally, anywhere in our system where we provide Truck-specific information we show the Vehicle number. We’ve also folded the Region/Location for that truck into the date, you just have to enable those columns. For example, you can open a settlement and look at Linehauls, it will look like this:

If you go to the drop down in the upper right grid, you’ll see additional fields shown below:

We attach the correct Region/Location based on the dates you specify. Now you can filter and group that data in the grid using those fields. Plus, you can export the data to excel with those fields turned on in case you want to do more analysis with excel using those fields.
